How to Prepare for Your Online Breathwork Session at home

Updated: Oct 28

Prepare your space, body, and mind for a deep, restorative experience. A little preparation can make all the difference when entering your breathwork journey. Creating the right conditions—both internally and externally—helps you drop more deeply into the Expanded State of Awareness and connect with yourself on a profound level.

How to Prepare Yourself for breathwork session at home

Light meal, open mind, relaxed body. Try not to have a large meal before your breathwork session. When your stomach is full, your body’s energy is focused on digestion, which can make it harder to reach the calm, expansive state that breathwork supports.

You can do your session either sitting in a comfortable chair or lying down—choose whichever allows your body to relax fully for 60 minutes.

Take a few moments beforehand to settle, breathe slowly. A simple phrase such as “I am open to release and renewal” can be grounding and powerful.

How to Prepare Your Space

Create an environment that feels calm, safe, and undisturbed. Your physical space plays a key role in your experience. Choose a quiet room where you won’t be interrupted. If you share your home, let others know you’ll be in a private session—placing a small “Do Not Disturb” sign on your door can be helpful.

Dim the lights or close the curtains. Having a soft blanket and a few cushions nearby can bring comfort and warmth. If you prefer, use an eye mask to block out visual distractions and help your awareness turn inward.

What Technology You’ll Need

Set up your sound and connection for the best experience. Good sound quality is essential for breathwork, as music and guided voice cues are a big part of the experience.

  • Headphones: Over-the-ear headphones are ideal, but earbuds also work well.

  • Speakers: External computer speakers are fine if you’re in a private space and can play music loudly.

  • Internet: A strong WiFi signal is good, but a wired connection is even better for uninterrupted sound. If you’re using a cell phone, ensure your reception is strong and install the Zoom app ahead of time.

A quick sound and connection check before the session will help you relax and stay fully present once it begins.

What to Bring to Your Breathwork Session

Have your essentials nearby so you can stay comfortable and focused.

Keep these items within reach before you begin:

  • A soft blanket to keep warm

  • Cushions to support your head or knees

  • A bottle of water and lip balm

  • Kleenex or tissues

  • A cup or small bowl, just in case you need to spit or release mucus

  • A blindfold or eye mask to deepen your experience

If you’re lying down, make sure there’s plenty of space around you to move freely without hitting anything—especially near your head.

🌿 After Your Session

After your breathwork, take your time to return to the present moment. You’ll have the opportunity to share your experience with others if you wish, and I’ll remain available to answer any questions or reflections that arise.

Many people find that journaling a few thoughts afterward helps integrate the experience and deepen self-awareness.
